One year after Fani Willis catapulted herself into national headlines by filing criminal charges against former President Donald Trump, Fulton County voters have reelected her as their district attorney.

Willis became the first woman to serve as Fulton County district attorney when she was elected to her first term in 2020, unseating longtime incumbent Paul Howard.

For the first time since 1996, a Republican candidate qualified for the DA’s race. AP called the race in Willis’ favor, as she earned 68% of the vote, with an estimated 68% of all votes counted.

Her challenger, Courtney Kramer, was an intern in the Trump White House and questioned Willis’ use of Georgia’s RICO Act.

Although Willis campaigned on her record of going after gangs and the pre-indictment diversion program that her office began, it’s the two high-profile racketeering cases brought by her office that have kept Willis in the headlines these past few years.

The first was against Atlanta rapper Young Thug  — real name Jeffery Williams — and his associates. The second was against Trump.

Willis’ critics have called the racketeering cases a waste of taxpayer resources, but Willis has said she is doing her job by holding lawbreakers accountable, regardless of who they are.

Perhaps her most turbulent moments in office came when she was called to testify — a rarity for district attorneys — on her relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor hired by her office for the Trump case.

Willis’ romantic relationship with Wade became public knowledge when a defense attorney for one of Trump’s associates found a mention of it in Wade’s divorce proceedings. Wade ultimately recused himself from the case.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Courtney Kramer’s plans regarding charges against former President Donald Trump. Kramer questioned Fani Willis’ use of Georgia’s RICO Act; she did not promise to drop the charges if elected.
