As television cameras role on a new season of Bravo’s reality series Married to Medicine, some may be wondering if Dr. Heavenly Kimes’ announcement Monday that she’s running for office is just for show.

The 54-year-old dentist, known for bringing the drama on the popular reality show for the past nine seasons, launched her campaign to represent House District 93 in Georgia. She is running as a Democrat.

Her co-star Quad Webb is her campaign manager.

“I’m not a career politician. I’m a mom, a doctor, a business owner — and I’m not afraid to stand up for what I believe in,” Kimes said in a statement to People.com. “I’m running to serve, and I’m ready to work.”

District 93 includes Lithonia, Stone Mountain, and portions of Decatur and Stonecrest in Dekalb, Rockdale, and Gwinnett counties.

Democrat Doreen Carter currently represents the district. According to her bio, Carter, 62, is a member of the following House committees: Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Code Revision, Economic Development & Tourism, Education and Small Business Development.

Members of the Georgia House of Representatives serve two-year terms. They are not subject to term limits.

The campaign site Dr. Heavenly for Georgia lists access to health care, criminal justice reform, education, and the economy as central issues in Kimes’ campaign.

“I’ve spent my life helping people build confidence, start businesses, and take control of their futures,” Kimes said. “Now I’m bringing that same passion to the State Capitol. District 93 deserves someone who’s not just talking, but doing.”

Cameras are reportedly filming season 12 of the series now, which means Kimes’ campaign could be featured prominently.

Kimes will officially kick off her campaign at a community rally today at 5 p.m. outside the Georgia State Capitol.
