- Kwanza Hall announced his plans to run for lieutenant governor of Georgia. The former city councilman, mayoral candidate, and congressman just launched his campaign website. Current Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan has said he will not seek another term.
- Did you know Atlanta is No. 2 when it comes to the best cities for Black professionals? That’s according to a new study from Apartment List. Atlanta trails only Washington D.C. and ranks ahead of the Texas trio, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas.
- Mayor Andre Dickens has eased up on a few emergency COVID-19 restrictions in the city. Mainly, the indoor mask mandate has been lifted. However, masks are still required at public meetings and programs in city facilities. Per the release, 55% of Atlanta residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Additionally, 76% of city employees are vaccinated with efforts in place to increase that number.
- The team behind the local clothing brand and online retailer, Support Black Colleges, is losing customers who say they’ve been waiting on their merchandise for months.
- The “Save Girls Sports Act” passed in the Georgia Senate. The bill would ban transgender athletes from playing on sports teams that correspond with their gender identity. Senate Bill 435 passed along party lines in a 34-22 vote. The legislation is now headed for a House vote.
