Spelman and Morehouse are once again among the nation’s highest-ranked historically Black colleges and universities.
Spelman College ranked No. 1 for the 20th consecutive year in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best HBCUs rankings. Morehouse College ranked No. 4 on the annual list.
“Celebrating 20 consecutive years as the nation’s No. 1 HBCU is both a tremendous honor and a meaningful reflection of Spelman College’s enduring excellence and distinction,” Spelman President Dr. Ayanna Howard said in a statement.
Spelman also ranked No. 2 nationally among liberal arts colleges for social mobility, No. 34 among national liberal arts colleges, and No. 31 among the top private national liberal arts colleges.
Morehouse, meanwhile, climbed 13 spots to No. 83 among national liberal arts colleges. The college also ranked No. 1 among HBCUs for undergraduate teaching and first-year experiences and was named the top-value HBCU that men can attend. The college also ranked No. 23 in the nation among liberal arts colleges for social mobility.
“The story of Morehouse is one of expanding access, unlocking talent, cultivating character, and sending well-prepared, principled leaders into the world to be the change they want to see,” said Morehouse President Dr. F. DuBois Bowman.
“Though we represent less than one-tenth of one percent of America’s college students, Morehouse produces more Black male graduates each year than the nation’s top 40 liberal arts colleges combined and sends more Black men on to earn PhDs than any other institution.”
Spelhouse students and alumni will certainly have much to celebrate heading into homecoming season as they gather in Atlanta on October 10.
