Dr. Augustus Wood is a professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Morehouse grad, and the author of Class Warfare in Black Atlanta: Grassroots Struggles, Power, and Repression Under Gentrification. Drawing on archives and oral histories from Black working-class Atlantans, especially Black women, his book traces how Black and white elites teamed up to steer public dollars toward development and policing, while housing was demolished and residents pushed out.

He’s the director of The Atlanta Way, a documentary examining the last days of public housing in Atlanta and the demographic shift that saw thousands of Black residents disappear from the city between 1994 and 2010, even as the city’s population grew whiter faster than almost anywhere else in the country.
