Here’s what’s up in Atlanta today:

  • The city of Atlanta is getting sued. Sean George, a 37-year-old Black man from Conyers, says his civil rights were violated when he was arrested during a 2020 protest Downtown following the death of George Floyd. Last month, George filed suit against the city and a few police officers in federal court. The suit alleges George was kicked and shocked with a Taser after being handcuffed. It also alleges he wasn’t given food or water, and couldn’t use the restroom at a city detention center where he spent 12 hours. George says he was physically and emotionally harmed by the arrest and wants a trial by jury.
  • The Georgia Department of Community Health wants to hear from you. Before awarding new health care contracts to insurers for the state Medicaid program, the department is looking for feedback from people on various aspects of it. Things like strengths, weaknesses, and whether cultural needs are being met — these are all being sought out. Responses should be emailed to CMO.RFP@dch.ga.gov by 2 p.m. on June 24.
  • Atlanta rapper Gunna has finally spoken out about his arrest. On his birthday Tuesday, he released a letter on his socials praising the year he’s had outside of the current “difficult situation.” Gunna was arrested last month as part of a RICO (Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) indictment against those connected to fellow rapper Young Thug’s Young Stoner Life record label.
  • It’s been a long time coming, but the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Innovation Corridor is officially complete. The plan to revamp MLK Jr. Drive and create a pedestrian, cyclist-friendly corridor has been in the works for a few years. The new corridor spans a little over 7 miles and includes new signs, a park, and better access to the BeltLine and MARTA.

ICYMI: Local food fave Slutty Vegan is out here making history. The restaurant and fashion line Steve Madden have teamed up to create a new limited-edition vegan sneaker and bag — marking the first time a vegan restaurant and a shoe brand have ever collaborated. Products are available online and at Steve Madden’s store in Lenox Square mall.
