Here’s what’s up in Atlanta today:

  • MARTA is moving forward with its massive expansion efforts. Board members approved plans for a new bus rapid transit line along Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta. The project is a part of a larger package that would bring 29 miles of light rail transit and 13 miles of bus transit to the city.
  • In the city that keeps growing, the potential mixed-use redevelopment of legacy nightlife businesses along Ponce De Leon Avenue has ATLiens up in arms. Rumors on social media swirled after the owners of beloved restaurant 8Arm announced they will close their doors in October.

“We knew that our building was a likely target for any sale or redevelopment of the overall space, despite having different owners, because of the prime Ponce-facing location, and because we would never be able to match a big-monied offer from a developer,” 8Arm owners wrote in a statement posted on their website.

  • It was a move that left residents in South DeKalb “blindsided.” Some 200 tenants at Forest at Columbia Apartments said they originally received a 30-day notice of lease termination. The property owner now says residents have 60 days to find a new home or face eviction. Property management says the sudden decision stems from maintenance issues that require a complete construction overhaul.

ICYMI: The Peachtree Road Race happened this past weekend, and three Atlantans touched the winner’s podium, claiming gold and silver. Rhonex Kiprotu, 22, of Atlanta, took home first place in the in-person full course category while Simone Bauknecht, 45, of Suwanee took home first in the virtual full course. Irene Cheptai, 30, of Atlanta took home second place in the elite women’s category.
